Breast cancer refers to abnormal growth of cells within the breast tissue or gland. Breast cancer can affect both men and women though it is common among women.It is a killer disease if not diagnose and treated on time.

RISK FACTORS FOR BREAST CANCER

*Age factor-Increase in age increases the risk of infection with cancer of the breast.
*The use of exogenous estrogens as hormone replacement treatment(HRT)

*Race and ethnicity-White women are at a higher rate than black women.
*Non breast feeding.
*Alcohol.
*Obesity
*High fatty diet.
SYMPTOMS OF BREAST CANCER
The following symptoms are signs of infection with cancer of the breast;
*Nipple discharge
*Change in size and shape of the breast.
*Redness of skin or nipple.
*Lump in the breast.
However,the above symptoms could only be ascertained to be cancer of the breast after proper medical examination and proof by a competent medical professional.
CURE AND CONTROL OF BREAST CANCER
The primary risk factors can be controlled by changing those factors that are changeable.Let's consider the followings;-
*Early screening and detection
*Limiting alcohol consumption
*Long term hormone replacement therapy should be avoided
Regular exercise
*Maintaining an ideal weight
*Proper diet
*Avoid self medication.Strictly follow instruction from the doctor during medication. Be mindful of expiry dates of drugs.
TREATMENT OF BREAST CANCER
Surgery-There's what is called Breast conservation Therapy(BCT) in which a little portion of the breast tissue is removed with the tumor and not the entire breast.
Segmental or partial mastechomy-Here,a larger part of the breast is removed yet not the whole breast.
Chemtherapy-This involves the use of anti cancer drugs to eliminate the presence cancer cells in other part of the body.
Biologic Therapy.
Hormonal therapy-The use of estrgen blocking drugs
Radiotherapy-Using high energy x-rays to kill cancer cells in the body.
